Naya Paila Nepal is a community-based and community-owned non-governmental organization established in the Nuwakot district after the 2015 earthquake in Nepal.
We are composed of local villagers — men, women and youth — who are committed to creating sustainable livelihoods in our native village communities. Our members are the creators and developers of the projects. We have lived here for many generations and understand the needs of the area and which approaches will succeed.
Projects are therefore driven by local people through the promotion of traditional local industries and the use of resources that are already available in the community.
We focus on breaking cycles of limited opportunity by supporting income-generating activities such as goat farming, knitting, and the production of compressed stabilized earth bricks for housing. We also improve education, water supply and community infrastructure.
Naya Paila Nepal works with donors and partners to implement these community projects. Our main goal is to support and inspire people in the community to recognize income-generating opportunities and to use and promote locally available resources.
To achieve this, we provide life skills, vocational training, livelihood support and educational programs. In times of major disasters we also provide emergency relief and support reconstruction.
We work to create an environment in which under-resourced women, men and youth can stand on their own two feet by taking advantage of income-generating opportunities. This can also motivate young people to stay in the village or encourage those who have migrated to return.
Our base is Karki Gaun (Kispang Rural Municipality, Ward 5) in Nuwakot district, Nepal. We also respond to needs in neighbouring villages when resources allow.
The board guides the strategic direction and accountability of Naya Paila Nepal.
